A 14-year-old has been killed by Myanmar junta shelling in Mindat Township, Chin State, a month after his younger brother lost a leg in a blast.

There have been clashes between Mindat Chin Defence Force and regime troops near Palontwe village on the border of Htilin Township in Magwe Region and Mindat Township on Wednesday. The Mindat-based Light Infantry Battalion 274 has been shelling nearby villages.

Shells landed on Madat village, injuring the teenager, according to the Mindat Township Peoples Administration.

A shell hit his chest. He was taken to the village clinic where he died,” said a member of the team, which is by the resistance. There has been no fighting where the junta is shelling. The troops are targeting farmers and families. It is cowardly.”

The teenager had eight siblings and his younger brother lost his leg on May 23 in junta shelling.

Three Moei Twei villagers in the north of the township were killed on June 16 by junta shelling while farming near their village and around 20 houses were destroyed in the village.

Chin State is a resistance stronghold. Regime reinforcements and drones were sent to Kyaukhtu airport on the border of Chin State and Magwe Region early this month. Kyaukhtu is a gateway to Mindat Township.
